On iPhone, the official option is Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom, a Bandai game that came to Apple Arcade in 2024. You need an Apple Arcade subscription to play it. On Android, we couldn’t confirm a current official Tamagotchi app as of September 2026. Older Bandai apps like Tamagotchi Classic and My Tamagotchi Forever have come and gone, so check the store before trusting a guide that still names them.
If you just want the Tamagotchi routine on your phone, several popular pet apps offer it, and a couple of them drop the part where your pet dies.
Is there an official Tamagotchi app? #
Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom (Apple Arcade) #
This is Bandai’s current Tamagotchi game on Apple devices. It’s part of Apple Arcade, so it isn’t sold on its own. The subscription covers it along with the rest of the Arcade catalog, and Arcade games come without ads or in-app purchases. Apple Arcade runs on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.
It’s the right pick if you already pay for Arcade or you care about playing an official Tamagotchi specifically. It isn’t an option on Android.
Older Bandai apps #
Bandai has published other Tamagotchi apps, including Tamagotchi Classic and My Tamagotchi Forever. Their availability has shifted over the years and depends on your region, so search the store yourself and check that the developer is listed as Bandai or Bandai Namco.
What about the Tamagotchi Uni? #
The Uni isn’t a phone app, but it’s the most “connected” Tamagotchi. Released internationally in July 2023, it was the first Tamagotchi with Wi-Fi. It’s shaped like a smartwatch and connects to Bandai’s online space, Tamaverse, where it gets downloadable content. If you want the real device with some online features, that’s the model to look at. We cover the full lineup in what is a Tamagotchi.
Be careful with unofficial “Tamagotchi” apps #
Search either store for “Tamagotchi” and you’ll find clones, emulators and look-alikes using the name. Before you install one:
- Check the developer. Official apps come from Bandai or Bandai Namco.
- Read the privacy label. A simple pet game shouldn’t need your contacts or precise location.
- Be skeptical of emulators. Apps that run old Tamagotchi software aren’t official products, and they can vanish from the store without warning.
Tamagotchi-style apps for iPhone and Android #
These are the well-known alternatives, with the details we could confirm from store listings and public sources:
| App | Platforms | Cost | What it’s like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom | iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV | Apple Arcade subscription | The official Bandai Tamagotchi game |
| Pou | iOS, Android | $1.99 on the App Store as of September 2026, plus in-app purchases and ads | Feed, bathe and play mini-games with an alien blob, then spend coins on outfits and wallpaper |
| My Talking Tom 2 | iOS, Android | Free, with ads and in-app purchases | Feed a cartoon cat, take him to the bathroom and tuck him into bed, plus mini-games |
| Neko Atsume 2 | iOS, Android | Free to play | Leave out food and toys and see which cats visit your yard |
| Chill Capy | iOS, Android | Free, with an optional subscription, gem packs and opt-in ads | A capybara in a hot spring with four meters, and he can’t die |
Pou #
Pou is the closest thing to a Tamagotchi most Android owners grew up with. Paul Salameh released it in 2012, and it’s estimated at around 100 million downloads. You feed it, clean it, put it to bed and play mini-games for coins. It had a second life on TikTok in 2024 thanks to videos of Pou plushies. The downside is the monetization. The App Store version currently costs $1.99 and still has in-app purchases and ads.
My Talking Tom 2 #
Outfit7’s cat has been around since 2013, and the sequel arrived in November 2018. The care routine is very Tamagotchi: feed Tom, take him to the bathroom, put him to sleep, play games. It’s loud, busy and packed with ads, which suits kids better than adults who want something calm.
Neko Atsume 2 #
Hit-Point’s sequel came out in October 2024 on iOS and Android. It isn’t a care sim. There’s no pet to keep alive, just a yard where cats show up if you leave out the right food and toys. We compare it with similar games in our Neko Atsume roundup. For people who hate being nagged, that loose structure is the point.
Chill Capy #
Chill Capy is the closest match to the Tamagotchi routine without the death screen. You feed a capybara one of eight snacks, give him baths, let him soak in the onsen for a ten-minute mood boost, and put him to sleep to recharge his energy. The four meters drift in real time even when the app is closed, but they stop dropping after 18 hours away, and he can never die or leave. There are also three short mini-games that pay coins for hats and decorations.
It works offline, needs no account and runs on both iPhone and Android. The trade-offs: there’s no death, so the stakes are low, and there’s no cloud save, because your capybara lives only on your phone. Most ads are rewarded videos you choose to watch. A short interstitial can appear after every third mini-game, never during care, and the optional Chill Club subscription removes those.
Which one should you pick? #
- You want the real brand: Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom if you have Apple Arcade, or a physical Tamagotchi if you don’t.
- You’re on Android and want the classic loop: Pou for the nostalgia, Chill Capy if you’d rather not deal with a pet that suffers.
- You hate being nagged: Neko Atsume 2 or Chill Capy, whose reminders stay off unless you turn them on.

Frequently asked questions #
Is there a Tamagotchi app for Android? #
We couldn’t confirm a current official Tamagotchi app on Google Play as of September 2026. If you find one, check that the developer is Bandai or Bandai Namco. Pou and Chill Capy are the closest Tamagotchi-style games on Android.
Is Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom free? #
Not on its own. It’s included with an Apple Arcade subscription, which also covers the rest of the Arcade catalog. Like other Arcade games, it has no ads or in-app purchases.
Can you connect a Tamagotchi to your phone? #
The Tamagotchi Uni connects over Wi-Fi to Tamaverse, Bandai’s online space, rather than pairing with a phone app. Older models connect to each other, not to phones.
What’s the closest app to a real Tamagotchi? #
For the classic feed-clean-play loop, Pou and Chill Capy are the closest. Pou keeps the old-school feel. Chill Capy keeps the real-time meters but removes death.
