Chill Capy Playdates: How to Add Friends by QR Code

To add a friend in Chill Capy, open the Friends tab and either tap “Scan a friend’s QR” and point your camera at their screen, or paste their Capy Code into the box below it. Your two capybaras then soak together in a playdate, you both earn coins, and the friend joins your Capy Crew list. There’s no account, username or server involved. Everything happens between your two phones.

How do Chill Capy playdates work? #

Every capybara can be turned into a code. The Friends tab shows yours two ways:

  • A QR code for when you’re in the same room.
  • A Capy Code, the same information as plain text, for sending through any messaging app.

When you scan or paste a friend’s code, the game reads a snapshot of their capybara: his name, level, stage, outfit and streak. It then plays a short scene of your two capybaras soaking together and adds your friend to your Capy Crew.

Because nothing goes through a server, each of you has to import the other’s code. If only you scan, only you get the playdate.

How to add a friend in person #

  1. Both of you open the Friends tab.
  2. You tap Scan a friend’s QR. The first time, your phone asks for camera permission.
  3. Point your camera at the QR code on your friend’s screen.
  4. The playdate scene plays, and your friend appears in your Capy Crew.
  5. Swap roles so your friend scans yours.

The camera is used only for this. The app scans the code on your phone and doesn’t take or keep photos. If you’d rather not grant camera access, the paste method below does the same thing.

How to add a friend who isn’t nearby #

  1. Your friend opens Friends and taps Copy code, or the share button to send it straight to a chat.
  2. They send you the code in any messenger, email or DM.
  3. You copy it and paste it into the "…or paste a Capy Code" box on your Friends tab.
  4. Confirm, and the playdate runs just like a scan.
  5. Send yours back so they can do the same.

A Capy Code starts with “CC1.” and includes a short check value at the end, so a mistyped or incomplete code gets rejected with a “that’s not a Capy Code” message. If that happens, copy the whole thing again rather than retyping it.

How do friendship hearts work? #

Each friend has a friendship level from one to five hearts:

  • Your first playdate with someone starts them at one heart.
  • Each later playdate on a new day adds a heart, up to five.
  • A second playdate with the same friend on the same day still plays the scene, but gives no reward or heart. Rewards refresh the next day.

So a new friend reaches five hearts after five playdates on five different days.

What do playdates pay? #

Each friend can pay out once a day. The coin reward grows with friendship:

HeartsCoins per daily playdate
130
240
350
460
570

Every rewarded playdate also gives 10 XP and a big boost to your capybara’s fun meter. Coins get a 10% bonus during seasonal events and 1.5x for Chill Club members. These figures are from the current version of the game (September 2026).

There are achievements too: your first playdate pays 80 coins, five playdates pay 5 gems, and fifteen pay 15 gems.

Tips for getting the most out of playdates #

  • Meet once a day per friend. The reward only counts once per friend per day, so there’s no point repeating it.
  • Keep your friends’ codes handy. A friend’s Capy Code keeps working, so a pinned message thread makes the daily playdate take seconds. Ask for a fresh code now and then, because the snapshot only updates when you import it again.
  • Grow a small herd. Each friend pays separately, so three friends at five hearts is 210 coins a day before bonuses.
  • Use the share card. The Journal tab can make an image of your capybara, level and streak for social media. One of the possible daily quests is to share a card, and it pays 60 coins and a gem.

Is it private? #

Yes. A Capy Code contains your capybara’s name, look, level and streak, plus a random ID for the capybara. It doesn’t include your name, phone number or location. It’s only shared when you show the QR code or send the code yourself, and it never passes through a server run by the developer. Your friends list is saved on your phone along with the rest of the game.

What playdates don’t do #

Playdates are deliberately simple, so it’s worth knowing the limits:

  • They aren’t live. You’re importing a snapshot. You can’t chat, and your friend doesn’t see you visit until they import your code.
  • Snapshots don’t update on their own. If your friend buys a new hat, you’ll see it after they send you a fresh code.
  • There’s no online leaderboard or friend search. You add people you already know.

If you want a bigger overview of the game first, start with the capybara virtual pet game guide. Chill Capy is free on iOS and Android, and the Friends tab is available from the start.

Frequently asked questions #

Do both people need to scan each other? #

Yes, if you both want the reward. Each phone stores its own friends list, so a playdate only counts for the person who scanned or pasted the code.

Can I add friends without using the camera? #

Yes. Ask them to tap “Copy code” and send it to you, then paste it into the Capy Code box on your Friends tab. It works exactly like scanning.

Do playdates need an internet connection? #

No. Scanning happens on your phone, and pasting a code works offline too. You only need a connection to send the code to someone far away in the first place.

Why didn’t I get coins from a playdate? #

You’ve probably already had a playdate with that friend today. Each friend pays once a day, and rewards and hearts refresh the next day.

How many friends can I have? #

The game doesn’t advertise a limit. Each friend pays out separately once a day, so more friends means more daily coins.
